CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON
Cops for Kids isn't just for kids. We also take the opportunity to remember senior citizens in the Lake Elsinore Valley. Christmas is a special time of year and we brought Christmas cheer to the senior population through a combination Rotary Club/Cops for Kids Luncheon.
The Lake Elsinore Rotary Club and Cops for Kids co-sponsored a luncheon for the many seniors who are regulars at eh Lake Elsinore Senior Center. Over 75 seniors enjoyed a great Sizzler lunch, received Christmas gifts, and were entertained by members of the Lakeside High School Choir.
Members of the Rotary Club joined in on the
fun. It was a great event where law enforcement, high school students, Rotarians, and our seniors all enjoyed each others company and welcomed the Christmas season.
Senior Gift Deliveries
Many of our local seniors live in small "retirement or board and care homes" where they get little or no opportunity to celebrate Christmas with others. This year, Cops for Kids, Sheriff's Deputies, Sheriff's Department Explorers, and members of the Lakeside High School Choir visited many of the valley's senior homes in person.
We went inside each home , as many as 20 of us, brought Christmas gifts and cheer and sang Christmas carols. Thanks to the choir members and their awesome teacher, Amy Shaffer, we actually sounded pretty good. Cops for Kids volunteers
and Sheriff's deputies are not necessarily known for their singing voices!
Christmas at the diamond
Each year, Cops for Kids distributes toys to disadvantaged children in the Lake Elsinore Valley. Christmas 2007 requests were almost double of previous years so we changed our usual plan of home deliveries by Sheriff's deputies to a Family Christmas event at the Diamond Stadium.
With the assistance of the Lake Elsinore Storm, the Lake Elsinore Unified School District, and the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, almost 1000 children and their families came to the Diamond. They had a family picture take with Santa and enjoyed refreshments. The big part of the day was seeing thousands of toys on the Diamond Stadium concourse and kids being able to pick their own personal Christmas presents.
Our own board member Jim Snyder was Santa, and Sheriff's department Explorers were great volunteers. Cherished Memories Photography was on hand to take almost 300 family pictures.
What a great day we had giving Christmas joy to 1000 kids and their families.
